Traditional bamboo lines the entrance to this tastefully decorated, single-storey villa. The air-conditioned lounge is furnished with comfortable couches and equipped with a satellite television and DVD player. The dining room, which seats five, lies adjacent to a well-equipped open-plan kitchen.

Two spacious air-conditioned bedrooms (also with ceiling fans) each feature a king-size bed and sliding doors that open to a deck overlooking the pool. The ensuite bathrooms, which are fitted with deep stand-alone bathtubs and large rain showers, are beautifully light and airy. Large skylights give the bathrooms an outdoor feel but with the benefits of being protected from the elements.

The covered deck area surrounding the pool provides a fantastic space for those wanting to relax or entertain. “Great deal for a huge villa, but quite far from the baech”
by AxelFrance at Wednesday - Mar 18, 2009
The hotel and its facilities:
Actually it's not a real hotel but rather a residence with a dozen villas.
That's not a concern as you get housekeeping, in house breakfast and phone numbers for home delivery if you want to dine in your villa.
However we were very disapointed by the in house breakfast.
At first it seems top chic: you have your own cook preparing breakfast in your kitchen at the hour you reserved.
But they were never on time (early or late), the food would arrive pre-cooked and was only warmed up in the kitchen.
In fact the eggs, toasts and pancakes were always cold when served.
The juice was not real fresh juice and they even charged me when I asked for an extra (cold) pancake.
Also if you reserve thru a travel agency you get a cheaper rate but then there are a few amenities that are not included, like airport transfert.
That was no big deal.
The manager is a young women from Singapor and is really friendly. We talked a lot and she gave us good tips on restaurants and place to go out nearby.

The villas:
The smallest was a 2 bedroom villa witch was HUGE! Actually clearly oversized for the 2 of us. The private pool was also huge.
The villas were nicely furnished though there were a few spots on the chairs and a weird smell of mould in the bathroom.
You have high-speed wireless internet access. There's also a flat TV with DVD player and you can borrow DVDs at the reception.
We were in villa n°9 witch is the closest to the road so you hear noise from traffic (especially motorbikes).
Go check their website: you can see a map of the resort and a few pictures.

The surroundings:
That's the major problem. Seminyak is a strange place full of wealthy expats and luxury resorts but with no proper roads!
Walking out there is uncomfortable and unsafe. There are no pavements and when they are, watch your step they have big holes.
At nights these roads get completly dark -especially the ones leading to the Residence- and you'd better take a flashlight with you.
You can always take a taxi: they're cheap, but they sometime forget to turn their taximeter on, or try to drive you to another place...
The regular fare for a short distance drive is RP 15,000.
You have to walk a good 15 minutes to get to the beach from the Residence, under the sun and in the middle of traffic (remember: no pavement).
Then you access the beach and can bargain for a beachchair. We payed RP 50,000 for 2 beachchairs for the day, but I'm sure you can get them for less.

“Okay experience”
by chinadude at Saturday - Jun 27, 2009
We spent 3 nights in the two bedroom deluxe villa 105. The size of the villa is definitely amazing. Big swimming pool and hugh bale upstairs. The manager is very nice, she upgrade us to deluxe villa for free with one guest bedroom locked, and romantic set up was in place when we checked into the villa. The rate she offered is also good.

However, the facility is more of a serviced apartment type villa, you don't expect hotel level service. Room service doesn't replace the toothbrush and toothpaste. The towels are clean I guess, but the color is not very pleasant. My wife and I got about 20 mosquito bites from the first night. There is no mosquito net and the bathroom is outdoor and there is big gap between the sliding doors. We ordered breakfast one night in advance for the next morning, but the staff still forgot to show up. We had to call a couple of times to push them. The free WiFi is available, but it doesn' t work when you turn on your laptop. You need to manually reboot the wireless modem located by the swimming pool every single time. The manager explained to us that such defect is caused by unsteady Indonesian infrastructure. But the free WiFi in Royal Pita Maha where we're staying at now seems to work all the time. The service here also overide The Residence Seminyak by far.

All in all, if you're traveling with friends or family, and don't expect high end service, I do recommend this villa since the value and size are very good. But if you travel with your girlfriend or wife and expect perfect experience, I do not recommend this villa.

“Good location if you want to be in busy Seminyak”
by SGnomads09 at Sunday - Jan 03, 2010
We stayed over the new year period and the villa was located in the heart of Seminyak, juts a couple streets off the main drag of Seminyak/Oberoi area. 5 mins to all the popular haunts.

Its was a very busy time of the year being NYE and all, so we hope that the service levels sufferred as a result. The villa was severely understaffed and unless you book early or in advance for transfers, breakfast...etc, as staff tend to need reminders, and attention to details were a bit of a challenge.

The villa is not too child friendly (we had a 2 yr old) so keeping an eye so that nobody goes tumbling into the pool was a full time job.

The driver recommended by the hotel was "functional" but could not suggest if prompted for suggestions, and certainly did not offer information about the places we were heading, it costs US$50 (incl taxes) per day for 10 hours, which we subsequently found out was probably on the high side.

Overall ok, location was central for those wanting to be in seminyak/oberoi, but a bit planning and would've got a better place for the money.

“Great Location and Villas”
by tomvangessel at Friday - Feb 05, 2010
i have not completed many hotel reviews in my lifetime. I believe that had I completed a review for each and every one of my hotel stays (which there are many), I’d be chastised by my overseas family for not spending that time speaking to them on the phone! However, the Residence Seminyak was certainly a property to comment on as I don’t believe that the current content available online accurately reflects the product that it is - a great villa with a fantastic central Seminyak location off a quiet alley that is also has affordable and fair prices. This is certainly a Villa property to consider if you are traveling to Bali for a short or long term stay. Since the Residence Villas are so large, the website photos can not capture the true size and comfort of Residence Villas. The rooms are large, fantastic quiet air-conditioning, very private outlook, and full day of sun over the pool areas (and shaded on the deck if you need a respite from the intense Bali sun).

I may sound like a spoiled traveler, but the Grocer & Grind (a short stroll from the Residence Seminyak) is a great retreat for many reasons: outdoor/indoor/A-C seating high quality western food for a fraction of the price you pay at home. a decent cup of soy coffee free wireless (the Residence Seminyak’s wifi worked well and a high speed) I recommend going to Grocer and Grind when you’ve eaten too much indonesian or asian food and when you are keen to have some western favourites.

I've read other reviews regarding its location being down a side alley; some of the review were mixed. I can confidently say that the well-lit lane access to the Residence is actually it's strength - a couple minutes walk to the 'action' whilst just positioned away from the noise that comes from the main road. The maps currently available online and even googlemaps does not portray to the first time visitor just how central and convenient the property is.

Their staff are all very attentive and overall were genuinely friendly. Particularly the cooks who come to your villas (at your request) to prepare a full breakfast for you in your villa (and even cut the local mangoes that i purchased from the markets - they are truly a delight to the palate).

I had friends staying at other more 'well-known' villas in Seminyak which due to their international reputation and branding, have been able to develop a international clientele following which in turn, increases the costs (more demand for same properties) to travellers such as ourselves. In fact, having seen 'those' villas, they have begun to look a bit worn and tired despite pictures saying otherwise coupled with the higher price tag given its brand reputation. Nonetheless, I recommend that you consider the Residence Villa on your next stay as you'll likely encounter superior product, equivalent (if not better) central location, without paying a hefty price premium given its brand.

2 thumbs up for the Residence Villa - it certainly made my stay worthwhile and I would now consider going back to Bali for a holiday.

“Huge villa in great location”
by Service at Friday - Apr 16, 2010
We stayed in villa 10 for 5 nights over Easter. Villa was great - it was huge with four bedrooms and three bathrooms over two levels. The pool was fantastic, bathed in sunshine all day long. There was also an extra deck area up stairs. You could easily have 8 people staying here and not feel like you were on top of each other. The staff were friendly and attentive with only only concern being a mix up with the 'maxi bar'. If you buy anything (drinks etc) from the shops make sure you bring this to the attention of housekeeping. Location was great, just a short walk up from Ultimo and right around the corner from Bodyworks and all the great new restaurants alongJl Petitenget.

“Great Villa, good location”
by Service at Monday - Aug 02, 2010
We stayed at The Residence Seminyak from July 23rd to July 30th/ 2010

I booked The Residence Seminyak thru Expedia and had several online conversations with the staff before our arrival. I arranged pickup online with no problems. I found the web site and very helpful and user friendly.

Upon arrival our family was collected from our first villa and treated to cold water and towels. Check-in was swift and friendly.

Our Villa: We booked the 2 bedroom deluxe villa that was perfect for our family. The den had been converted into a third bedroom so we each had our own room. The villa was stunning with a large pool, great upper deck, fully stocked kitchen and two fantastic bathrooms. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks, beer and snacks all at a very reasonable price. The grounds were well kept with several pieces of stone art.

Service: The front desk service was very helpful and professional. Villa service was good but a little inconsistent throughout our stay. Breakfast was served in our villa in the morning at for the most part was good. (had a hard time with the poached eggs, one day scrambled, one day hard boiled but really not a problem) Overall the staff was very friendly.

Location: We loved the location, as it was a short walk to the main street and a quick taxi ride to the beach.

Overall the villa was the highlight.

“Best ever - i will never stay anywhere else in Bali again”
by shaztic at Sunday - Oct 24, 2010
Stayed recently with a couple of friends in what is definitely the closest to deserving of the term "palatial" of any other hotel or villa in my experience - the photos online are accurate but don't do it justice

Booking was easy - the villa was ready when I checked in right on 2pm - finding it is a little tricky for some drivers - if you're not confident of the directions it may be worth getting a hotel transfer the first time - i knew where i was going and my taxi still got lost - always nice to visit kerobokan though....

Facilities are beyond description - the best of any villa of this nature I've seen to date - you can actually swim little breaststroke laps in the pool - the main bedroom has the classic outdoor balinese bathroom with the biggest jacuzzi imaginable (we had trouble filling ours and then gave up) - the pool surrounds are gorgeous (fountains, water features, gardens etc

Rooms are large and comfortably appointed - dvd players and tv's abound - furnishings are lovely as well as comfortable - the tiled floors are always tricky when wet but that's just a matter of practice

We got a reduced price and were then - very pleasantly - upgraded -- even so - I still think this would be good value for groups of at least 4 people (ie two - three bedrooms) - other properties in the area with anything like this level of comfort and size are probably double the price

Service is excellent - to the point of making you feel over-indulgent (this takes a lot for me when on holidays btw) - our breakfasts were cooked in our own kitchen to order and were better than average for hotel breakfasts in Asia - which - let's face it - are always a bit dodgy anyway - other room service options are available but the best restaurants in bali are just outside so why bother

I have been coming to Bali for more than 20 years and have stayed in all styles of accommodation - including other private villa properties - this one is the best -- I read the reveiw of every other poster on this page and had a good giggle at many (most actually except for tom and biantara) of the comments and have addressed some of those below as well - from the sounds of them the posters have no idea about bali at all -- please forgive any sarcasm - it's masquerading as humour -- the typos however are all my own ...

The location is great - the only thing that would make it better would be closer proximity to the beach - but then I probably (definitely) wouldn't be able to afford it - plus - who doesn't check the location of their hotel on a map??? most private villas are much further away from the beach btw - I can only think of a couple that are closer

Seminyak is not noisy - it's the nicer, quieter end of town - where all the upmarket boutiques and restaurants are - if you want noisy go to Kuta - the comment about Seminyak being strange was also (have to say it) strange - most of the expats live in Ubud actually - all my friends do except one and he would cack to hear himself described in this way

Footpaths - all of bali and most of indonesia (actually most of SE Asia) have the same style of road/footpath - I've read complaint comments like this before from people who obviously don't research their holidays very well - walking around is neither uncomfortable nor unsafe - unless you somehow thought that it wasn't going to be extremely hot in Bali and have never walked around in SE Asia before

$50 per day for a driver and car and petrol is phenomenal value - the poster didn't get a professional tour guide bcause they didn't pay for one - this poster has seriously unreasonable expectations - driver means exactly that - driver - they know how to get you where you want to go and they are pleasant - that's about it

Room /hotel style service - no it's not a "real" hotel - it's a private villa - duh! that's possibly the dumbest comment of the lot - private villa's have self-contained facilities with some central services (usually bookings, breakfast, cleaning etc) - the service at this establishment is exceptional - one visit to cook breakfast (yes cook - on the spot) and clean the kitchen, another visit to clean the whole premises and a final visit just before dusk to spray for mozzies and change the outdoor lighting around for evening (i loved that bit) - i found the comment about the toothbrush not being replaced very amusing as well

Child friendly ??? - can you imagine a private villa with a nice metal pool fence around the artisitcally placed infinity pool - seriously people - you should have gone to Nusa Dua with all the other family groups who don't actually want to be in Bali at all

As a final comment - the towels are a kind of oatmeal/taupe/tan shade which matched the room decor admirably - other than the toothbrush comment - this is my fave

“Not really a 4 star”
by traveler1969-3 at Sunday - Feb 06, 2011
This private villa is a nice villa with your own private swimming pool, but really there are better ones out there at the same price. The bruchure says that it is a 4 star accomodation, and really it can be ( or may be has been in the past) .. but it is not. The villa mattresses and bed sheets and towels smell bad. This could be because they did not use detergent to wash it or may be they did not wash it all. The color of both towels and sheets are brown! so it is really hard to tell if they are clean... and since they smell I would say that it has not been probably washed..
I really think it is time that they start changing these old mattresses, pillows and sheets to new white ones. Very friendly staff though. Overall I would give it a 3 star.

“Poor location, dangerous roads to negotiate, nice villa.”
by Bon2005 at Thursday - May 12, 2011
The villa itself is beautiful, spacious with a lovely pool but the location is horrendous with pot holed roads and speeding traffic from motor bikes to large trucks to negotiate. Very off putting. Take taxis if you want to go anywhere. It is very out of the way.

“Truly THE residence.”
by mccheah at Saturday - Jul 09, 2011
We travelled to the Island of Gods, Bali in 2009 for the first time to welcome the new year that awaited us.

It was tricky to travel in December as it is a wet season in Bali (bring a brolly). However, our accommodation more than made up for the slightly glum weather. We arrived to a beautiful resort nestled in the heart of the sophisticated Seminyak, Bali. The Residence is a quiet and secure gated development comprising fully serviced villas with a private pool.

Breakfast is cooked at your villa and served at the table right by the poolside every morning. It's almost like waking up to breakfast-in-bed which was heavenly! Afterwards one can enjoy a swim before heading out to explore the town area. Close to Kuta and Legian which are 5-10mins away by cab, it is the perfect location to be at. If you are feeling adventurous, you can take an evening stroll or rent a bike to get around.

If you would like to chill in your villa, you can also request for room service from the restaurants around the neighbourhood. Do ask the concierge for the menu for restaurant options. Although I would personally recommend checking out the night scene, there are many nice and fancy restaurants offering anything from local to fine dining.

Be sure not to miss out Kudeta where you can have a lovely romantic dinner in this fine dining glassed-up restaurant by the beach, and enjoy cocktails and the breeze after that. Reservations are recommended.

While you are there, do try and catch a sunset dinner of seafood by Jimbaran, which is about 45 minutes from Seminyak by car - you won't regret it!

An excellent choice for those who want the convenience of being close to the best collection of boutiques, international restaurants, entertainment spots and the Bali beach.

“Great location, friendly staff, some remarks...”
by MannaMac at Friday - Aug 05, 2011
We spend 4 nights at Seminyak with my wife, my brother and his wife. We shared a 2 bedroom villa (Villa 7), very spacious with a great swimming pool and decoration. The breakfast prepared in the room was excellent and always on time. The negative points were the smell at the kitchen after the breakfast, lots of insects near the pool at night. The air conditioning in my brother's room was not working neither the safe.
Location is excellent, walking distance from very good restaurants and shops.
